Grab your dictionary, loosen your preconceptions, and be
prepared to work hard as you join Dr. Michael Conforti on his guided verbal
tour of the archetypal patterns, the nature and impact of and archetypal
fields, the relationship between matter and psyche, the relevance of replicative
patterns in therapeutic work, the life-giving gift of disruption and chaos,
and much more. Many areas of study, such as biology, systems theory, chaos
theory, nonlinear dynamics, Jungian analysis, and theology look at basic
patterns found in the world that are responsible for the generation of
matter and form, and Dr. Conforti has liberally illustrated his exploration
of archetypal fields with examples and insights from the sciences.
Throughout this book Michael Conforti articulates
a clear wish: that the reader will see that life has as much to do with
personal choice as it does with an understanding that one's life is often
silently guided by the presence and influence of an archetype. Clearly
if we believe that the direction of our life is largely a matter of personal
freedom we will be forced, in this study, to carefully consider the force
of destiny.
Furthermore, if, as Michael Conforti states, our human
life as well is lived in accordance to the presence of some pre-laid,
archetypal gridline which functions perhaps to align one to some innate
destiny factor, then therapists will benefit from exploring the unsettling,
challenging implications, both for themselves and for their clients. Michael
Conforti certainly does explore his insight and readers will probably
read and reread his explanations, as internal arguments, questions and
protests surface.
Lest we conclude that we are doomed by fate to live, and be, a
certain way, Michael Conforti challenges us to learn to recognize our own
archetypal morphology and destiny, and to respond to it in a personal way.
He states, Our capacity to recognize patterns brings humanity into a
potentially strong alignment with the archetypal . . . this book shows how
to make these reconnections, and how, in realizing the presence of a
pattern and field, we can engage more meaningfully with this underlying
archetypal reality. No doubt some readers will eagerly look for clear
directives on how to recognize and how to engage with these patterns. A
descriptive word frequently used by the author does suggest that the
process involves a commitment to hard work, and this word is metabolize.
