The Diamond of Self

Incubated within the darkest depths
and forged by pressure and heat,

The diamond is created.

Tossed by the earth's mighty movements
and exposed by eons of erosion,

The diamond is revealed.

Left untouched by the ages of time
and gently washed by the elements,

The diamond is discovered.

Grasped within our infant hand
pain and joy are merged into memory,

The diamond is cut.

Commitment and vulnerability to others
cleaves challenges and character upon the face,

The diamond is polished.

Intimate struggles and hopeful dreams
bless us with the inner light,

The diamond sparkles!
