Sophia, Mother of Wisdom

Dance with me
says the one
who knows all things

I have a mystery
a great marvel
oh, steadfast ones

All creatures are
in spirit created
from time's beginning

Figures of clay
bound to the earth
for time and half a time

Fashioned by fire
heaven sent
graced with light

never to remain stones
grounded in the earth
fearing shame or trickery

or turned back to dust
away from the trees
that know good from evil

I say to them distinctly
"The gates are open!"
and the earth shakes

The time of the universe
has become prophetic
your journey must begin

You are part of a long hymn
that goes directly to God
Oh, steadfast children

Do not be wearied
in singing the songs
of everyday life

Imagine your voyage
as a sabbath-song
welcoming understanding

As a stranger coming
into the city
your welcome awaits

From Sophia's house
hear the sound of wisdom
clearly in the night storms

She walks beside your
yearning and praises it
in the square of the lit window

Smell the scent
of her finest flowers
as you leave the wilderness
