Traumatic Incident Management

Front line workers in the
health field need to develop the understanding, skills and attitudes to
manage stressful experiences associated with traumatic incidents.
During the Traumatic Incident Management Workshop participants
will learn about the health endangering effects of critical incident trauma
and other stressful life events. Strategies for dealing with the effects
of exposure to traumatic events in the health care worker will be presented.
A developmental model for dealing with trauma that promotes
resiliency and optimal health will be taught. A combination of lecture,
discussion and experiential activities designed to increase the provider's
self-awareness and knowledge about how to effectively manage traumatic
and stressful work related experiences would be taught.
Workshop objectives:
You will have the opportunity to learn and integrate the following
knowledge:
- learn about the nature of stress and trauma
- understand about the health consequences of unprocessed trauma
- learn about current models of traumatic incident intervention
- develop an understanding of the TRAUMATIC INCIDENT MANAGEMENT MODEL
(TIMM)
- Develop personal skills for dealing effectively with stress and
trauma.
- learn about how to incorporate the principles and practices of stress
resiliency and health engendering behaviors.
- gain access to information on trauma management for further reading,
research and development.
Day One
- Overview of trauma, stress and post traumatic stress syndrome
- Symptoms and health consequences of unresolved trauma and stress
- Practical ways of addressing stress and trauma
- Resources and roles in the management of critical incidents.
Break
- Experiencing TIMM: Traumatic Incident Management Model
- The Six Universal Processes of Personal Mastery- of stress and trauma
and other challenges.
- Sharing and discussion
Day Two
- Experiencing TIMM-the nine Rs
- Application of management and processing skills for dealing with trauma-more
on the SIX UNIVERSAL PROCESSES
Break
- Debriefing and processing traumatic incidents
- Setting boundaries regarding resolution of personal experiences of
stress and trauma.
- Developing awareness of ways of protecting self and other from traumatic
events.
- Learning the skills of stress resiliency to take home
